(9) to do all such other acts and things as may be requisite to further the objects of the University or to give effect to the powers conferred on the Court by the Ordinance or the statutes.

Statute 10.

The Honorary Degrees Committee.

1. The Honorary Degrees Committee shall consist of-

the Chancellor, who shall be chairman;

the Vice-Chancellor, who shall be vice-chairman;

the Dean of each Faculty, and

a member of the Council appointed by the Council.

2. The Registrar shall be the secretary but not a member of the Honorary Degrees Committee.

3. The member appointed by the Council shall hold office for three years at a time and shall be eligible for reappointment.

Statute 11.

The Council.

1. The Council shall consist of fifteen of the members of the Court, namely—

the Vice-Chancellor, who shall be chairman;

the Treasurer;

the Colonial Secretary;

the Dean of each Faculty, and

nine persons to be appointed from time to time for a term not exceeding three years by the Chancellor of these one shall be a member of the full time teaching staff of the University, one shall be nominated by the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce, one shall be a Chinese nominated by the Chinese members of the Executive and Legislative Councils jointly, and of the remaining six, two shall be Chinese; any member so appointed as aforesaid may resign by writing addressed to the secretary of the Council.

2. The Registrar shall be the secretary but not a member of the Council.

3. Seven members of the Council shall form a quorum.

4. The powers of the Council may be exercised notwithstanding any vacancy in its number, but if at any time and as long as the number of members of the Council is less than ten the Council shall discontinue the exercise of its powers.

Statute 12.

Powers of the Council.

Subject to the provisions of the Ordinance and the statutes the Council shall have power—

(1) to govern, manage and regulate the finances, accounts, invest- ments, property, business and all affairs whatsoever of the University and for that purpose to appoint bankers, counsel, solicitors and such other officers or agents as it may be expedient to appoint;
